He first appears in the episode "Callisto" where he begins his quest to glory. He first offers his services to Xena as a warrior, which she refuses. He then turns to Callisto and asks to join her army. She sends him on a mission to capture Gabrielle and bring her back in order to earn his way into her army. After unsucessfully trying to capture Gabrielle, who easily fends him off, he returns to camp. There he finds that Callisto has already taken Gabrielle prisoner herself and gives Joxer a new task. He must kill Gabrielle. Unable to bring himself to do it, he becomes a prisoner along with Gabrielle. They are both freed by Xena after she defeats Callisto. In the episode "For Whom the Bell Tolls," Aphrodite is bent on breaking up a marriage and turns Joxer into a Xena-like fighting hero. He charms the princess away from the prince and almost starts a war between two kingdoms. Joxer also appears in "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" where he brings the head of Orpheus to Xena to get her help. Along with Joxer's help, Xena is able to kill Bacchus and free the young women he had turned into blood sucking bacchae. He earns Xena's respect in "Intimate Strangers" where he valiantly defends Xena's horse, Argo against Callisto, who had injured the animal. In the slightly more modern episode "The Xena Srolls," it's actually a descendent of Joxer who gives producer Rob Tapert the idea to start the series "Xena: Warrior Princess." Jack Kleinman (Joxer) help Janis Covington (Gabrielle) and Melinda Pappas (Xena) find the Xena Srolls and fend off the Germans who also wish to get their hands on them. And Joxer even gets together with Meg, the Xena look-alike who poses as Xena in the episode "Warrior...Princess...Tramp." (Season 3)
